About project:
Project OpenSpaceAlps - Sustainable development of alpine open spaces by enhancing spatial planning governance - was approved on the fourth INTERREG V B tender of the Alpine Space Programme. It spatially relates to the Alpine region and to the area covered by EUSALP - EU Strategy for the Alpine Space Region (AS). Seven institutions from Austria, France, Italy, Germany and Slovenia are involved in the implementation of the project. A partner from Slovenia is the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia.
The objective is to foster sustainable development of AS by maintaining open spaces as part of alpine GI through a interlinked, multi-level transnational spatial governance considering integration of ecosystems functions and needs into policies. We improve the capacities of spatial and sectoral planners in their role for balancing different land uses. By applying a participatory approach, we strengthen and coordinate regional, national and trans-national spatial planning processes. Thus, we contribute to the programme goals by improving the integration of ecosystem services into the policy system of the AS. Hence, initiating and moderating a process towards the adoption of new spatial planning approaches in the AS countries is a must-have.
This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg Alpine Space programme. Total project budget is 980.739,61 EUR, with ERDF grant: 833.628,65 €.
