Research groups

At our institute, we encourage collaboration and interdisciplinarity by bringing together researchers in formal and informal groups. These groups facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experience, and ideas among experts from various fields, leading to innovative solutions and breakthroughs in research. Researchers connect based on specific research topics or projects, which ensures focus and efficiency. With this approach, we create a stimulating environment for creativity and achieving top results.

Research group

The Spatial Planning Research Group operates at the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia and is engaged in research that supports modern spatial planning. Their work focuses on smart cities and communities using modern approaches (such as the ecosystem approach and nature-based solutions) and information technologies, on sustainable development with a low-carbon society and adaptation to climate change, and on the quality of life in inclusive communities with an emphasis on spatial demography and housing. The research is focused on the evaluation of development paradigms, mobility and low-carbon society, spatial demography and housing challenges, and the development of methods and tools for planning processes, which contributes to sustainable and high-quality spatial development in accordance with international and Slovenian guidelines.

Infrastructure group

The Infrastructure Group provides comprehensive support to researchers with an emphasis on geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial analysis. Through the Urban Simulation Laboratory, it enables the implementation of simulations at various levels, maintains and upgrades the technical infrastructure for GIS and other tools, takes care of the collection, processing and display of data for analysis and monitoring of spatial development, maintains and distributes electronic databases through the Indok Center, and conducts training in the use of relevant software, thus providing comprehensive support for research activities in the field of space.

The group actively supports communities in solving transport challenges with a focus on a paradigm shift in transport planning and management. It operates domestically and internationally, collaborating with reference experts and the public and private sectors. Based on research, practical tests and more than 20 years of experience, it prepares expert recommendations and solutions, trains experts and decision-makers, and develops planning tools such as integrated transport strategies, mobility plans and other strategies, with an emphasis on the integration of transport and spatial planning.

Institute administration

The Institute's management ensures smooth operations and the achievement of strategic goals through effective management and organization. The key role of the management is to manage the project office, which provides professional assistance in preparing project applications, obtaining funds and successfully managing projects through all phases, and ensures transparent financial accounting, which enables transparent management of financial resources and ensures compliance with legislation. An important part of the management's operations is also the human resources policy, which focuses on employee development, creating a stimulating working environment and ensuring adequate staffing to achieve the Institute's goals. In this way, the management creates the conditions for successful research work and achieving top results.
