Parking is among the more pressing problems of modern cities and increasingly also of smaller settlements. Passenger cars are used on average for only one hour per day, yet enormous amounts of valuable urban space are allocated to them. Therefore, it is not difficult to understand why we must devote special attention to parking. The construction of large parking facilities at travel destinations is expensive and environmentally problematic, so it is wiser to approach parking more efficiently, through its management. In spatial planning and land-use regulation, there are few areas that can have as many positive effects on quality of life, behavioural change, and travel habits as parking management.

The study was carried out as a basis for legislative changes in the field of spatial planning, through which urban planning criteria for the planning of parking areas in municipal spatial plans will be determined, and guidelines will be provided for incorporating the topic into Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans.
