Mateja Kurir is a Senior Research Fellow, philosopher, author, editor, and researcher from Slovenia, working at the intersection of architecture, spatial practices, and the arts. She holds a BA and PhD in Philosophy from the University of Ljubljana and has been an Associate Professor since 2024.
She is the author of Arhitektura moderne in das Unheimliche (2018) and editor of several volumes, including On Power in Architecture (Routledge, 2024). She received the Plečnik Medal in 2022 and again in 2024 for her contributions to architectural theory and criticism.
Currently based at the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, she has previously worked at the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, KU Leuven, and the University of Rijeka. She has also created radio broadcasts on art and architecture for Radio Študent.
She has lectured at the AA School in London, Piran Days of Architecture, and the University of Ljubljana, and spoken at conferences in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Portugal. As a reviewer and juror, she collaborates with academic journals and architecture awards across Europe.
