This online Proceeding has been released in the framework of the Symposium “Civil Society Reclaims Public Space, Cross Perspectives Based on Research” held in Brussels in March 2012. The Symposium was organized as part of the second festival of the European project Human Cities: Reclaiming Public Space, supported by the EU Programme Culture 2007-2013 and with the collaboration of the Association of European School of Planning (AESOP) - Thematic Group “Public spaces and urban cultures”. After the first Human Cities book in 2010, this new online publication continues to discuss open public spaces. During the past few years, Human Cities as a project and as a network, has aspired to come to terms with the gap between the practice and the theory of urban issues. This online publication is no exception; it is rooted in actions initiated by the civil society to reclaim public space. It continues its way along academic and professional thoughts about this phenomenon. The first part concentrates on Human Cities project results such as Toolbox and Observation mission, the main part is dedicated to the contributions represented at the Symposium and the last part is dedicated to impressions from the workshops held at the Symposium.
