Dr. Igor Bizjak graduated in 1987 from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana with the thesis "Computer variants of the program for a set of industrial facilities in a specific location." After graduation, he worked for 15 years in the Ljubljana Urban Institute, as an independent developer of information systems. In the eighties and nineties, he developed tools for computer-aided design and endeavour to facilitate the effective implementation of geographic information systems in spatial planning. During this time he also wrote over twenty technical articles for the Slovenian computer magazine Monitor.
Since 2001 he has worked at the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia. First as development senior research assistant and since 2004 as head of the infrastructure group, and from 2016 as a director of the Institute. In the spring of 2014, he successfully completed postgraduate studies in ITC-Euromaster with the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences (construction information). His scope of work includes the production of geographic information systems, program-specific add-ons for GIS presentations and analyses, manufacture and analysis of databases, spatial analysis, spatial data processing and creation of Web platforms within research and marketing tasks in the field urban planning. In the last few years, he has devoted research for public participation in the spatial planning procedures. In the context of research work at the Urban Planning Institute, he participated in a number of studies in the field of spatial analysis, spatial strategies and target-specific analyses.
